Equal Opportunity Company MINERA MÉXICO Industrial Minera México’s Nueva Rosita Plant, given by the Mexican Department of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), for outstanding efforts in equal opportunity employment.
Recognition as a Socially Responsible Company (2010) MINERA MÉXICO During 2010, information was gathered and consolidated to obtain the “Socially Responsible Company” award given by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy.
Recognition for contributions to cultural development in Moquegua region MINING DIVISION (Southern Copper) The National Cultural Institute of Moquegua (INC) recognized the valuable contribution of the Company to the development and promotion of this region’s culture and efforts to strengthen the identity of the communities.
5th place in Mexico in the ranking of companies with Sustainable Social Responsibility (2009) GRUPO MEXICO The publication Mundo Ejecutivo analyzed 50 Mexican companies and awarded Grupo México fifth place.
6th place in the Basic Materials sector in Newsweek's ranking of Green Companies (2009) MINING DIVISION (Southern Copper) The publication Newsweek analyzed 500 American companies divided by industry sector and Southern Copper Corporation was awarded sixth place in the Basic Materials sector. The categories analyzed were: environmental impact, environmental policies and performance, and a survey.
Recognition as a Company committed to the education of its employees (2009) MINERA MÉXICO Recognition from the National Council on Education for Life and Work (CONEVyT) for Mexicana de Cobre metallurgic plants for promoting and financing basic education for mine employees.
Workplace Health & Safety management certificates OHSAS 18001:2007 (2010) MINERA MÉXICO Seven of our units received certification, endorsed by British Standard Institution, Lloyds Quality Assurance Register, and SGS Group.
National Safety Award (2010) MINING DIVISION (Southern Copper) Awarded in the Smelters and Refineries category by the National Mine Safety Institute (ISEM). This distinction is given to the companies that meet safety standards. The Ministry of Energy and Mines, the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE), the College of Engineers, and the Institute of Mine Engineers of Peru participate in the rating.
Mine Rescue Crews (2010) MINERA MÉXICO The Mexican Mining Chamber awarded the Santa Bárbara Mine first place in ”mine rescue” and also second place in the “benchman test for the Biomarine team”.
John T. Ryan National Mine Safety Award 2010 MINING DIVISION (Southern Copper) For the third consecutive year, the company Mine Safety Appliances of Peru awarded the Company the John T. Ryan National Mine Safety Award 2010 in the category “Smelters and Refineries”, for its outstanding operating performance at the Ilo unit. The Ilo unit has received this award the last three years in a row.
Top level recognitions for the Workplace Health & Safety Self-Management Program (2010) MINERA MÉXICO The Charcas, Zinc Refinery, Nueva Rosita units, and the La Caridad Metallurgic Complex received top recognitions for the Workplace Health & Safety Self-Management Program, given by the Mexican Department of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS).
“Casco de Plata” award from the Mexican Mining Chamber (2009) MINERA MÉXICO The Mexican Mining Chamber, under the XVIII International Convention on Mining, awarded the Casco de Plata to the Mexicana de Cobre precious metals plant, for obtaining the best safety rates in the Plants and Smelters with up to 500 employees division.
PROFEPA Clean Industry Certificates (2010) MINERA MÉXICO Clean Industry Certificate given by the Mexican Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA) to the Lime Plant in Agua Prieta, the Charcas and Santa Bárbara units, and the Zinc Electrolyte Refinery in San Luis Potosí.
Recognition for the water treatment project (2010) ASARCO Recognition of ASARCO LLC given by The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) for the water treatment project at the Upper Blackfoot mine complex in Lincoln, Montana.
SEMARNAT Recognition (2010) MINERA MÉXICO Recognition given by the Mexican Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) for presenting a Greenhouse Gas Report, for the fifth consecutive year.
Clean Industry Certificate (2010) TRANSPORTATION DIVISION The Mexican Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA) gave Clean Industry re-certification to the locomotive maintenance shop in Guadalajara.
Best Corporate Bond 2010 GRUPO MÉXICO Given by the publication LatinFinance, recognizing execution and pricing.
Best syndicated loan of 2010 MINING DIVISION Given by the publication LatinFinance, for the successful reorganization of ASARCO.
ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001:2007 (2010) MINING DIVISION (Southern Copper) The international organization Bureau Veritas conducted an audit of the integrated management system of the Refinery at Ilo, reporting the Company deserving of three international certifications: ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems, and OHSAS 18001:2007 Workplace Health & Safety Management Systems.
Transparency in Information”, “Environmental Conduct”, and “Best overall performance” (2010) MINING DIVISION (Southern Copper) Recognized as the best national company in the categories: “Transparency in Information”, “Environmental Conduct”, and “Best overall performance”. The “Best overall performance” award recognizes the company that has registered the best scoring for its adherence of corporate governance best practices. Given by the Association of Capital Market Promoter Companies (Procapitales) and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC).
